INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Colts’ front office will soon start examining the roster with free agency looming in the coming months.
Pat McAfee is one of almost two dozen players set to become free agents for the Colts.
The team slapped McAfee with a franchise tag last season, signing a one-year deal worth $2.9 million; that salary put him third in the league in punters. McAfee told us he loves Indianapolis and hopes to be a Hoosier forever, but also understands this is a business.
“I’ve seen a lot of guys sign a lot of very big contracts that are punters that don’t do as much as I do,” McAfee said. “I’ve never wanted to be the highest-paid guy. I come from very humble beginnings. It’s not that I need a lot of money, but respect is always the biggest thing.”
The 2014 free agency begins on March 11.
