INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Sophia Saucerman, 12, received the honor of a lifetime earlier this month at halftime of the Broncos-Chargers game.
Saucerman was recognized for winning this year’s NFL Play 60 punt, pass and kick competition for her age group.
“I was speechless,” she said. “A lot of things were going through my head…It’s a once in a lifetime thing.”
“Very proud,” said Sophia’s dad, Gus. “Very few sports you can say you’re a national champion at, being a 12 year old, that’s pretty unique.”
Saucerman got to the national competition last year, but didn’t earn her first championship until this year.
“Her specialty is punting – those skills she’s honed as a soccer goalie,” Gus said. “She hopes to play soccer in college down the line.”
