INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – There will be no trash pick up on Friday, Jan. 24, because of subzero temperatures.

The Department of Public Works announced on Thursday evening that residential trash, heavy trash and curbside recycling would be suspended for Friday.

According to a release, crews have been experiencing delays throughout the day because of how the extreme cold temperatures impact equipment and crew members.

Because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, trash pick up is already on a slide schedule. Thursday routes will be collected Saturday, Jan. 25, and Friday routes will be collected on Sunday, Jan. 26. Routes that were not completed on Thursday because of freezing temperatures will resume on Saturday, Jan. 25.

If your route is not completed, you’re asked to leave trash out for collection the next day, weather permitting. With inclement weather in the forecast residents are encouraged to clear snow and ice away from trash to make collection as accessible as possible, a release said.

Below is an altered trash schedule:

Original Pick-up Day                      Altered Pick-up Day

Wednesday                                        Thursday (1/23) Saturday (1/25)

Thursday                                             Saturday (1/25)

Friday                                                  Sunday (1/26)
