INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – One person was taken to a local hospital early Saturday morning after being shot during a home invasion on the city’s southeast side.

It happened just after 4:30 a.m. in the 7700 block of Windy Hill Way, which is near East Raymond Street and South Franklin Road.

Police on the scene say two men kicked in the front door. They shot the homeowner and ransacked the house. They say the suspects may have been startled by two children – ages 12 and five – who woke up to loud noises. The suspects, described as men with a medium build wearing dark clothing, then fled in an unknown direction.

The children then saw their dad lying on the floor and called police.

The man was taken to Sydney & Lois Eskenazi Health with two gunshot wounds to the upper chest and head. He was in critical condition but was listed in stable condition as of 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police officials say nothing was taken from the home and they don’t believe the incident is a threat to the public.

Police say the suspects left behind evidence, which was processed and taken by IMPD evidence technicians.
