WAYNE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – The eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 in Wayne County were reopened on Saturday night after a fatal crash occurred.
Eastbound traffic was diverted off the interstate due to the crash that happened between the 140 and 141 mile marker.
According to a release from Indiana State Police, the crash involved a passenger vehicle and a semi. There was one fatality.
Police say the car was going west on I-70 and for an unknown reason, drove across the median onto the east bound lanes and was hit head on by the semi. The car ended up back in the median and the semi drove off the south side of I-70.
The driver, later identified as Patrick Wesseler, 31, of Newburgh, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Eastbound lanes were re-opened two hours later. The semi involved was left at the scene off the east side of I-70 because of weather and traffic conditions.
