INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – There will be no evening or extra-curricular activities on Monday for Indianapolis Public Schools because of the extreme cold temperatures.
IPS Superintendent Dr. Lewis Ferebee made the announcement over Twitter Monday afternoon.
The cold prompted nearly 300 closings and delays on Monday morning.
City officials announced in a press conference that city offices would be closed Tuesday because of the cold. Mayor Ballard and other city leaders urged residents to check on the elderly and their neighbors during the cold stretch.
In anticipation of the bitter temperatures, cities around the area planned to open warming shelters for those in need.
