Fishers ‘Grandmas’ get married during Grammys

FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) – Dreams came true at the Grammys Sunday night for two women from Fishers, but these dreams had nothing to do with awards, or even music for that matter. These women got married during the show.

Watching it back for the first time, Caroline Martin and Sharon Chrust reminisce about their Grammy wedding.

“We were certainly the oldest of all the couples,” Chrust said.

The Fishers couple always talked about getting married, they just knew it couldn’t be in Indiana.

“This opportunity came up and we said, ‘Why not California!'” Martin said.

Chosen to take vows on live TV, Chrust and Martin joined 32 other couples during a Macklemore and Madonna medley.

“Seldom can you have Madonna sing at your wedding,” joked Chrust.

Madonna was just the beginning of their celebrity guests. Watching the video, the women pointed out, “This is Pink in here somewhere, and Ringo was right there, and oh, what’s his name? Neil Patrick Harris is right in here.”

The Grandmas, as they’re known, said they can’t express the emotions of that night, and during their whole trip.

“We had so much acceptance and normalcy in California and when I walked off the plane in Indiana not only did the temperature effect things but the atmosphere just seemed different,” said Martin. “It doesn’t feel like we’re part of a group anymore.”

If anything, Chrust and Martin hope their special ceremony prompts more dialogue about same-sex marriage in Indiana, and if they could dream once more…

“I hope there will come a time when we can repeat this is Indiana,” Chrust said.
