INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Hundreds of IPS students have brighter smiles thanks to the Pacers, the Fever and Team Smile.
Wednesday morning the students from School #44 received a free cleaning, treatment or sealants at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The free day of dental care is meant to teach the children how important it is to take care of their teeth.
Dentists say oral disease can impact a child’s performance in school, speech development, nutrition, self-esteem and even their sleep.
Indiana Fever Head Coach Lin Dunn was there to help with the event.
“A lot of kids can’t go to the dentist, parents can’t afford to take them, or they work and can’t get them there,” Dunn said. “It’s a way for us to give back to the community. You know, it is preventative. What can we do to prevent cavities and losing teeth and having issues with their mouth.”
It took a team of more than 100 dental professionals and volunteers to take care of all the children. This is the first time the program was held in Indianapolis.
