INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Fire officials say two people were hurt in a house fire on the near northeast side of Indianapolis Friday night.

The fire broke out in the 2500 block of North Gale Street just before 7:30 p.m.

The homeowner told firefighters he was in the kitchen when he heard a strange noise coming from the water heater. The homeowner and his wife evacuated the home. They were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

When fire crews arrived at the scene, they could see heavy smoke and fire showing through the roof of the building. It took crews about an hour to get the fire under control.

The fire ripped through the home and left about $70,000 worth of damage.
