NASHVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – Friday, a jury found 77-year-old James Bowyer not guilty of starting the fire that destroyed the Little Nashville Opry in 2009.

Prosecutors say Bowyer set the fire in hopes of collecting $3 million in insurance money because he was heavily in debt from casino gambling losses. The defense says Bowyer left before the fire started and wasn’t listed on the insurance.

The first witnesses took the stand last Thursday in a Brown County court.

Friday, Bowyer was found not guilty of arson. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
