Part of Centerville evacuated after gas leak

CENTERVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – A section of Centerville, Ind. was evacuated Friday night after a gas leak.

Officials say a four block radius near Third and Main streets was evacuated after a gas main rupture. Three or four residents and a dog in three houses were evacuated. The residents were staying with family Saturday.

Town Council President Daniel Wandersee says crews shut the gas off. He told 24- Hour News 8 that there are currently  “explosive levels of gas” inside the Village Pantry.

A local utility company was digging into the road an crews worked overnight to replace a bad valve.

Gas had been shut off to Vectren customers north of US 40 to 4th Street. Officials say all gas lines will be reactivated by early Saturday evening

Officials also say 125 customers were affected.
