INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Monday is the first time many folks will have to deal with a new construction project on Keystone Avenue at Fall Creek.
Over the weekend, traffic was restricted to one lane in each direction; it’s expected to remain this way through November 2014.
The Department of Public Works is rebuilding the bridge over Fall Creek.
DPW says the bridge is showing signs of wear and badly in need of repair.
Crews will replace the existing bridge with a steel beam structure, new columns and a concrete support wall.
Also, raised concrete sidewalks and bridge railings will be built on each side.
One man who works nearby said any improvements are good in the long run.
“It’s going to be a problem for us because it’s going to slow down our traffic just a little bit,” said Kiley Clardi. “Anything to help the inner city, that’s the main thing.”
The Fall Creek Greenway Trail will be closed and realigned during construction, so trail users will have to follow a detour.
Murphy’s Steakhouse, just south of the bridge, will remain closed throughout the duration of construction.
