Stores low on snow supplies as winter storm approaches

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – As we get ready for another blast of winter weather, a lot of us are finding out there’s a shortage of some supplies we use to stay safe in the snow.

24-Hour News 8 checked around several stores on Monday, including going into one looking for snow blowers. Two of the big box home improvements stores are out in the Indianapolis area. If you’re looking for ice melt, some stores are running out of that, too.

“You know, I don’t mind it. Yep. I know I’m in the minority, but I like the snow,” said Katie Russo of Indianapolis.

Russo is getting prepared for the next winter storm. She went out Monday to stock up on ice-melt. Good thing she did because it’s going fast.

“I want to get ahead of the storm; my supply is running low and I want to get it while I have a chance to get it,” said Michael Maddox of Indianapolis.

Justin Raisor rushed to Sullivan Hardware, too. He went to several stores and had no luck.

“Gotta get it while it’s here and hope for the best,” Raisor said.

Many stores are either low or completely out on either ice-melt, shovels and snow blowers.

“Ice-melter is really getting hard to get so that’s been a huge problem,” said Pat Sullivan.

Sullivan placed an order Sunday for shovels. They were getting low on shovels at his store.

“The later it gets the harder it is to decide. When it’s in December, you decide you’ve got the whole winter I’m going to get a semi load of it, but now you want to time it perfectly. Because it seems like Gold now, but it’s junk in a month in a half,” he said.

Maddox said spring can’t come soon enough.

“I’m tired; I grew up in Detroit, so I’m used to cold weather, but this is different,” he said.

“This weather is not the best, but you’ve got to do what you can. You still have to get your physical activity in, but make sure you’re prepared for the worst,” Raisor said.
