Winter storm to hit Indiana on Tuesday

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A good part of central Indiana is under a winter storm warning for a storm system that will arrive Tuesday afternoon and last through Wednesday afternoon. The warning begins at 1 p.m. Tuesday and expires at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Winter precipitation will begin anytime after noon and impact the evening commute Tuesday as well as the morning commute Wednesday.

The latest forecast has the higher snowfall totals for areas north of Interstate 70, where 6 to 10 inches of snow are possible with some sleet mixing in.  Areas to the south of I-70 could see lower snowfall totals, but also have some sleet and freezing rain accumulations.

Areas to the south of I-70 could see very slick roads and perhaps the threat of downed power lines if ice accumulates.  All areas could see blowing snow as well, as winds will increase Tuesday into Wednesday.
