Firefighters injured in west side fire

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Firefighters in Wayne Township were on the scene of a residence fire on the city’s west side Wednesday morning.

Crews responded to the 1100 block of Tudor Avenue around 6:40 a.m. This is in the area of West Morris Street and South Lynhurst Drive.

Chopper 8 flew over the scene, where heavy smoke and flames were showing. The Wayne Township Fire Department tweeted shortly before 7 a.m. that one civilian was slightly injured at the scene.

A firefighter fell through a second story floor and went through the first floor into the basement. He fell approximately 20 feet. A mayday was declared. Officials say that firefighter was rescued and taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in good condition.
