JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) — A special prosecutor has been named to investigate a southern Indiana drug court after at least four people spent months in jail despite being ordered to serve only days or weeks behind bars.
WHAS-TV reports Jefferson County Prosecutor Chad Lewis will decide whether charges are filed against Clark County Drug Court Treatment Program staff who are the subjects of an Indiana State Police investigation.
Clark Circuit Judge Jerry Jacobi has fired drug court Director Susan Knoebel and has suspended court bailiff Jeremy Snelling indefinitely without pay. Knoebel has said she has been made a scapegoat in the case.
Clark County Prosecutor Steve Stewart requested a special prosecutor Monday. He said his office had received a nearly complete investigation from state police related to possible criminal misconduct among drug court employees.
