2 teens arrested for fire at old SW Indiana school

COALMONT, Ind. (AP) — Police have arrested two teenagers on charges that they set the weekend fire that destroyed a former elementary school in a small southwestern Indiana town.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Department says the boys were arrested Thursday after one of them told detectives they were inside the old school in the community of Coalmont setting fires because they were bored.

The school closed about 50 years ago but was still used as a community center in the 400-person town about 20 miles south of Terre Haute.

The Brazil Times reports the 16- and 17-year-old boys are students at Shakamak High School in nearby Jasonville. They are facing felony charges of arson and burglary.
