Docs: Parents arrested for shaking baby

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – Two Columbus parents are facing battery charges after their 6-month old son went to the hospital.

Thursday, Police arrested 25-year old Pedro Lopez and 18-year old Leydi Garcia after they say each parent admitted to shaking their baby, Caleb.

Lopez and Garcia are being held at the Bartholomew County jail. They face charges of battery resulting in serious bodily injury to a person less than 14 yrs of age and neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injuries. Both charges are Cla

Court documents say a doctor who examined Caleb reported the baby had a number of internal injuries to his head and abdomen. He had three head hemorrhages,  two broken ribs, a lacerated spleen, a broken leg and a broken arm.

The doctor said, “no medical conditions that would cause this constellation of injuries.”

Baby Caleb is undergoing treatment at Riley Hospital for Children.
