INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The design for the Grand Prix of Indianapolis trophy was unveiled Friday evening.

The Grand Prix of Indianapolis is the first IndyCar Series road race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway each year.

Dan Nichols from California was the winner of the design contest. His design was chosen from over 150 entries. He says it’s an honor to be part of the heritage of IndyCar.

“It was total disbelief when I’d heard that I had won,” Nichols said. “I thought I might’ve been the runner-up or something and that would’ve been exciting, but to actually win it is amazing. This is very humbling and I get the chills when I think about it. To be involved with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Grand Prix of Indianapolis blows me away.” provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
