INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – One person is in custody early Sunday morning following a two and a half hour standoff with an Indianapolis SWAT team.

Late Saturday night, IMPD officials confirmed the person inside an east side residence at Brookside Parkway South Drive and North Rural Street may have a connection to a shooting at a west side hotel that occurred earlier in the day.

IMPD officials told 24-Hour News 8 the situation began after someone called police about seeing a possible shooting suspect enter the home on Brookside Avenue. Officers did not release the identification of that person.

During the standoff, police learned a woman was inside sleeping at the time. That woman was able to leave the house while the suspect was still inside. She was not arrested and was cooperating with police.

Police officials say they are not sure how the suspect is connected to the home.

While the SWAT team was at the scene, officers spotted a vehicle parked near the home that matched a similar description to the car they were seeking in connection to the shooting. Officers towed that vehicle away as evidence.

The standoff ended with a suspect taken into custody around 12:30 a.m. Several people were brought in for questioning. Police were still investigating on Sunday morning.
