INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A 23-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital early Saturday morning after she was shot in the stomach during an attempted home invasion on the city’s east side.

IMPD officials say around 2 a.m. two black men dressed in dark clothing and scarves around their faces attempted to get in the front door of a home in the 800 block of North Gladstone Avenue. That’s near East 10th Street and North Sherman Drive.

A woman and three other occupants were able to close the door to keep them from coming in. That’s when the suspects fired around seven or eight shots inside the house. The woman was hit with at least one bullet in the stomach. She was taken to Sydney & Lois Eskenazi Health. Her condition was not immediately released although police say she was awake and breathing.

Police did not immediately release information on the suspects.
