One dead after house fire in Marion

MARION, Ind. (WISH) – Police say one person was killed in a Marion, Ind. house fire.

The fire broke out at a home in the 500 block of East Sherman Street early Saturday morning.

When officials arrived at the scene, they saw flames coming from the home. Officers were told four people had escaped the home, but one person was still inside.

Officers entered the home, but were unable to make it very far inside due to heavy smoke. They then broke a window and yelled to the person, but no one replied.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and entered the home. Inside, they found one person dead inside.

Three Marion Police officers were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. They were later released. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
