DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department discovered a large marijuana growing operation Monday night.

Deputies were at a residence in the 5100 block of County Road 39 southeast of Auburn to locate a man suspected of domestic battery in Allen County, according to a statement by the sheriff’s department.

Around 9 p.m. while deputies were at the home they noticed a strong marijuana odor coming from an outbuilding on the property.

Deputies and a K-9 Officer from the Auburn Police Department obtained a search warrant for the building and a vehicle on the property.

Approximately 100 marijuana plants were found inside the building. Investigators said the plants have an approximate street value of $100,000.

Police did not release the name of the man they were initially attempting to locate or the name of anyone suspected in the marijuana operation.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

The Indiana State Police and Auburn Police Department assisted with the investigation.
