The Center Grove girls’ basketball team recently clinched a share of the MIC title for only the fourth time in school history, and there’s one girl they credit for their success: Bobbie Clayton.
The summer before her senior year, the Trojans’ reserve tore her ACL in a routine summer league game in the Center Grove gym. With the injury coming less than four months before basketball season, there were many doubts about whether or not she’d be back, but not for Clayton.
“I just wanted to be back where I was,” she said. “That was my main priority in the recovery process. That was the one thing on my mind.”
After surgery and a ton of therapy, Clayton returned a good month and a half before anyone expected, just in time for her final season with the Trojans.
“It just says so much about her character, her determination. She’s just really truly a quality person,” said Center Grove Head basketball coach Shawn Sanders.
Center Grove takes on Franklin Central in the first round of sectionals on Tuesday night.
