BROWNSBURG, Ind. (WISH) – An Iowa man was arrested after a wild two county police chase that reached speeds of up to 120 miles an hour Wednesday.

Brownsburg police officials say an officer stopped a car for a moving violation around 11 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 74.

The officer approached the car and suspected the driver, Herman T. McHenry III., 31, may have had drugs inside. McHenry was put into the police vehicle. As a K9 got close to the car, McHenry jumped out and tried to run back to his car. A struggle ensued with officers. They used a stun gun on him twice but it didn’t work because McHenry was wearing a thick coat.

Police say McHenry got back into his car and sped off, leading police on a chase going south on I-74 and into Pittsboro. He then drove on U.S. 136 into Lizton. McHenry hit a school bus at U.S. 136 and State Road 39. No injuries from that accident were reported.

Authorities continued to chase him north of Ind. 39 and east on I-74 into Marion County driving at 120 mile per hour at times.

The car chase ended when McHenry’s car hit a snow bank at 32nd Street and High School Road in the Speedway area. But the pursuit wasn’t over.

McHenry fled the vehicle on foot with a backpack he grabbed from the car’s trunk. Police were able to catch up with him shortly after.

Police found two pounds of marijuana, one pound of meth and a 9 mm sub machine gun.

Officials say multiple felony charges were pending Wednesday. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
