Pence endorses pre-k programs

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Governor Mike Pence says he is in favor of voluntary pre-K programs saying every child deserves to start school ready to learn.

He made the testimony before the Indiana Senate Education & Career Development Committee on Wednesday.

Pence said just a few years ago, he had concerns about the program, but that in traveling the state during his time as governor, he’s seen the impact pre-K programs can have a on a child’s future.

In December, the governor said this was one of his priorities for 2014, but this is the first time he’s endorsed a proposal at the statehouse. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
