Murder-suicide reported at Bloomington retirement home

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – The Bloomington Police Department is investigating a murder suicide at a retirement home.

I-Team 8 has confirmed the incident occurred at the Meadowood Retirement Community, located in the 2400 block of Tamarack Trail, on February 14.

Police were called to the community on report of a possible shooting. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 76-year-old woman and a 77-year-old man dead in one of the rooms of the community. Both victims were suffering from gunshot wounds.

Initial investigation suggests that the female victim was shot and killed by the man, who then took his own life.

Police officials say at least one person involved in the incident was a resident at the retirement home.

Friday, I-Team 8 obtained this statement from the retirement home:

This morning we had a tragic incident involving a resident of our community.  Because of state and federal privacy laws, we cannot provide any further information about this resident.  We take the safety and well being of our residents very seriously and are cooperating with the authorities to investigate this matter.  We will provide whatever support and assistance we can to our residents, families and staff during this challenging time.
