SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Some South Bend residents say they’re fed up with snow-related delays in trash pickup that have left weeks’ worth of trash piling up in bins and alleys.

Resident Franz Richter tells the South Bend Tribune his trash hasn’t been picked up in four weeks and there’s “trash everywhere” in his neighborhood south of the University of Notre Dame. He’s been keeping his trash in the garage and even in the house to keep it away from animals.

South Bend has delayed trash pickup on at least two occasions over the past month because heavy snowfalls have made it difficult for crews to navigate streets and alleys.

City Public Works Director Eric Horvath said Friday the city has assigned additional crews to try to eliminate the trash piles.
