Local prison program helps train dogs for adoption

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Patty Spitler with Pet Pals, Steve Lackey and Layla, an abandoned pit bull looking for a home, talked about a program that helps train pets.

FIDO is a program at the Pendleton Prison. Prison inmates teach some unadoptable shelter dogs and cats how to behave in the hopes of helping them get adopted. It also gives inmates a great way to learn and be rewarded by doing a good thing.

Lackey says Layla is the kind of dog that might be euthanized if not for the FIDO program.
