INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Light snowfall expected Saturday evening could break the record for the snowiest winter in history in Indianapolis.

A light storm system moved in to the Terre Haute area after 9 p.m. It will continue overnight potentially bringing 1 to 2 inches of snow. The snow will arrive in the Indy area around midnight. Overnight the snow accumulates to 1″ to 2″ by daybreak Sunday. If that happens, this winter’s snowfall totals will reach more than 51 inches, which was the highest snowfall total for Indianapolis during the 1981-82 winter.

As of early Saturday, the snowfall total for Indianapolis this winter was 50.5 inches.

Temperatures Saturday will reach the mid-20s. Lows will drop to the teens overnight into Sunday. The highs on Sunday will range from the mid-20s to the mid-30s.

The next chance for precipitation could be on Monday. Rain showers could mix with a few snow showers. Temperatures begin to increase with highs in the low 50s on Thursday.
