TAYLORSVILLE, Ind. (The Republic) – One suspect is dead and another was taken into custody after a more than 12-hour standoff near Taylorsville.
Indiana State Police were involved in the standoff at the Red Roof Inn on U.S. 31. It started around 8 p.m. Sunday and ended around 8:30 a.m. Monday.
The incident involved two men from Michigan, one of whom was wanted for armed robbery, 24-Hour News 8’s news partner The Republic reports.
Law enforcement received information about the men, and began looking for the suspect vehicle. Police say photos of the suspects were shown to at area motels and hotels. The men had checked into the Red Roof Inn Sunday night.
One suspect, wanted for armed robbery, was taken into custody after he surrendered Monday morning. Police learned the other suspect, a convicted felon, was in possession of a firearm. An arrest warrant was obtained and negotiations went on for a few hours. Police say the second suspect, identified as 44-year-old Richard Morris, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to a release from ISP, Morris is the stepfather of the suspect who was wanted for armed robbery and surrendered to police.
Police are investigating. The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the scene.
