LAGRANGE, Ind. (AP) — The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department has honored two 911 dispatchers for their quick thinking in helping a woman who authorities say was abducted by man after he escaped from a Michigan prison.
The department gave meritorious service awards Monday to Heather Lock and Kelly Landers.
While escapee Michael David Elliot pumped gas in Middlebury, the abducted woman called 911 from a concealed cellphone. The sheriff’s department says Lock advised the woman to lock herself in the gas station’s restroom. While Lock stayed on the phone with her, Landers alerted the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department. Elliot then left without the woman, who wasn’t injured.
Elliot was captured later that day in LaPorte County. He’s being held on $1 million bond while awaiting extradition back to Michigan.
