Boy, 6, found asleep on school bus after mother reports him missing

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A 6-year-old boy is safe after his mother says he didn’t get off the bus after school on Tuesday.

The Liberty Early Elementary student was found asleep at the bus transportation center in Decatur Township Tuesday evening.

The child’s mother reported her son missing after he hadn’t been dropped off at his normal time. She then contacted the bus barn, and officials found the boy asleep on the bus. He was OK.

The MSD of Decatur Township released a statement that said the director of transportation immediately contacted the student’s mother and made arrangements to take the student home.

As student safety is of the utmost importance, MSD Decatur Township officials say bus drivers conduct closing procedures and inspections at the end of every run. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
