INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A woman was shot on the city’s northwest side Tuesday morning outside of a KinderCare, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department dispatchers said.

Officers responded to the 6700 block of Eagle View Drive around 7:24 a.m. This is in the area of West 38th Street and Interstate 465.

Dispatchers say the woman was shot in front of a KinderCare by her ex-husband.

According to police, the woman had just dropped off two children. She was outside when she was shot multiple times.

The director of the daycare drove in and saw the woman down in the parking lot and called police.

The person of interest, 33-year-old Christopher Justice, then fled the scene in a 2006 Black Ford Fusion with an Indiana “In God We Trust” license plate number UXR330 with 2014 expiration.

Officers continued to search for Justice Tuesday afternoon. He is described as a light-skinned black male, 6 foot 1 inches tall, 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He is considered armed and dangerous.

According to police reports, Justice has been under investigation before for violence against his ex-wife. In 2008, Justice was accused of violating a protective order against his wife, after she moved into a domestic shelter. In 2007, police say Justice threaten to kill his ex-wife after she took photos documenting his abuse.

Police say the woman was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition.

No children were hurt. Police at the scene say there were children inside the KinderCare at the time of the shooting. The facility’s website says it opened at 6 a.m.

24-Hour News 8 spoke with two mothers Tuesday morning who said they received a phone call saying they needed to come pick up their child, but weren’t told what the situation was.

Anyone with information about the location of Justice or this incident is urged to call IMPD at 317-327-3475. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers of Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477). Callers may also text “INDYCS” plus tip information to 274627 (CRIMES).
