LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The Lafayette Police Department needs the community’s help locating the vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run Tuesday night.

Police said it happened around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, in the eastbound lanes of the 2100 block of Union Street. When officers arrived, they found a man with injuries, including one to the head. Medical aid was provided on scene, but a short time later he was pronounced dead by medics.

LPD reports the vehicle involved fled the scene and has not yet been located. The Lafayette Crash Reconstruction Team was called to assist in the investigation. Police photographed the scene and collected pieces, but investigators need the public’s help in locating the vehicle.

Police believe the vehicle in question will have a broken headlight on the front, passenger side and possible damage to the hood. Police think the passenger side mirror is still intact.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is encouraged to call the Lafayette Police Department at 765-807-1200 or the anonymous WeTip Hotline at 800-78-CRIME.

At this time, police said the identity of the victim is being withheld pending confirmation of the coroner and notification of next of kin.
