MONROE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A man was taken into custody Wednesday morning following a police chase involving a stolen vehicle.
According to police, officers in Monroe County were responding to a crash on the north side of Bloomington when around 9:45 a.m. dispatchers put out a report of a stolen vehicle.
Minutes later, two officers saw the car and began to follow it. The vehicle got onto State Road 37, and police were joined by an Indiana State Police and Morgan County officer.
Police say speeds reached 80 mph during the pursuit. Officers deployed stop sticks at State Road 44, ultimately stopping the vehicle.
The chase ended shortly before 11 a.m. on SR 37, just south of the Johnson County line and SR 144.
The male driver was taken into custody and transported to the Monroe County Jail. He faces preliminary charges of fleeing, resisting arrest and vehicle theft.
Two squad cars were damaged when they came in contact with the suspect vehicle. No injuries were reported.
The incident is under investigation.
