INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officers responded to the scene of a person shot Thursday evening.

The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. in the 600 block of East 23rd Street, near the intersection of 23rd Street and Park.

Police officials say the male victim, a teenager, died. He has been identified as 16-year-old Quinton Nance.

Dwight Allen lives nearby and said he saw a group of teens fighting but thought it was over.

“I went to the car and that’s when I heard the gunshots,” said Allen. “People don’t understand when you make an act like this, you can’t take it back once you do it. You know, you just can’t take it back.”

Police said the incident was likely the result of a disturbance. They say there were witnesses to the shooting. Detectives were in the process of interviewing them Thursday evening. As of Friday morning, the motive was unknown and detectives had not identified a suspect.
