INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A change in restaurants is coming to the Indianapolis International Airport.
Airport officials say Giorgio’s Pizza and two Cold Stone Creameries will soon be replaced due to poor sales. They say the airport authority board voted to replace those businesses with a Chick-fil-A, a Freshens frozen yogurt shop, and a pub from Miami called Corona Beach House.
But not everyone is on board with the plan. Brian Shapiro, who owns the local deli Shapiro’s, says he is afraid that bringing in “out of the box” food service establishments will hurt the overall feel and pride of the airport.
“I think that America has become very cookie-cutter. You can go to any city in the country and they all have the same thing. Our deli, Café Patachu, and Harry and Izzy’s has been named in numerous publications that make the Indianapolis Airport special,” he said.
He says he praises the airport officials for its management of the complex, but believes the establishments inside should be kept local.
