1,000+ hogs died in Carroll Co. farm fire

CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – More than 1,000 hogs were killed after a barn in Carroll County caught fire Wednesday afternoon.

Buck Creek, Cutler, Democrat Township, Flora, and Rossville fire departments responded to the fire around 4:30 p.m. Crews arrived to find the barn near the intersection of Prince William Road and 650 South engulfed.

According to Democrat Township Fire Chief Cody Miller, there were hogs in three-quarters of the barn. The Associated Press reports more than 1,000 hogs were killed in the fire.

Miller said the cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but a heating unit could have been a factor.
