INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Friday afternoon, firefighters were investigating a furnace explosion.
Officials say two people were hurt at Bodycote Thermal Processing, a business at 21st Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street, on the city’s near north side.
A spokeswoman for IFD says two people were transported to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital. One patient, a 30-year-old man, suffered burns to his face and chest. He was alert and conscious when transported to the hospital, but officials are calling his injuries serious. The other patient, a 29-year-old man, was treated for a possible concussion.
There was no word on the cause of the furnace malfunction, but fire officials are calling the incident a furnace explosion.
Arson investigators are looking into what caused the accident.
