Child dies in Sullivan day care fire

SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTHI/WISH) — A child died in an early morning day care fire in Sullivan Tuesday, WISH-TV’s sister station reports.

Just before 6 a.m. Tuesday, crews were called to Waterman’s day care, 541 E. Silver St. As of 8:30 a.m., fire and emergency crews remained on the scene.

The fire chief said six children and one adult were inside at the time of the fire, and one of the children did not make it out alive.

The Sullivan County coroner has confirmed the victim in the early morning daycare fire was a 17-month-old female. Officials report she died of smoke inhalation.

The name of the victim has not been released yet.
