MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) – A first of its kind project in the nation is underway in Muncie. It is called a teaching hotel.

The Arc of Indiana, a corporation that helps those with developmental disabilities live, work and play in the community, is partnering with the Courtyard by Marriott and other local organizations to open a hotel.

It will provide education and training in the hospitality and food service industries for people with disabilities. People with disabilities will have the opportunity to own their own business in the hotel.

The project was made possible by a state grant. Groundbreaking for the teaching hotel is planned for later this year and opening is slated for late summer 2015. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
