Accused Greenwood teacher appears in court

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A now former Greenwood High School teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student appeared in court Wednesday morning.

Tim Guilfoy, who taught physical education and coached girls golf, resigned over the weekend after police say they caught him with a 17-year-old girl in his truck. According to police, he told officers he was having sex with her.

A not guilty plea was entered for Guilfoy, who was charged with seven counts of child seduction. The court also issued a no contact order between Guilfoy and the girl. A trial date was set for July 7. The Marion County deputy prosecutor says their next step is to speak with the victim’s family.

“In general terms it is upsetting when a person in a position of trust takes advantage of that position for his own benefit, for his sexual benefit,” said Eric Schmadeke, deputy prosecutor. “And the black eye it gives all of the great teachers out there who go to work every day with the intent of taking care of their students rather than the alternative.”
