CANON CITY, Colo. (CNN/WISH) – An Indiana sex offender has been arrested and is accused of killing a mother and her two children in Colorado.

Jaacob Vanwinkle is facing charges for first degree murder, kidnapping and sexual assault.

Police in Cañon City, Colorado say they were called to a home on reports of a sexual assault, but when they arrived at the home they found the bodies of a 35-year-old mother along with her 5-year-old and 9-year-old.

Vanwinkle is a registered sex offender in Indiana. He was also arrested and questioned in a murder in Brown County three years ago. Officers found him after searching the woods in Brown County for hours.

Police say Vanwinkle told them he found Michael Eaton’s body, but didn’t kill him. He admitted to moving Eaton’s body and burying it under clothes and blankets inside the home’s attic.

An autopsy found Eaton died of natural causes. Vanwinkle was never charged.
