LEBANON, Ind. (WISH) — Nearly two years after a hit-and-run accident that killed a Boone County grandmother, a public service announcement has been created to help solve the crime.

Monday morning, investigators and Crime Stoppers released the new public service announcement created with the help of Ball State University.

In November of 2012, a driver went off the road and hit 78-year-old Anita Wernsing as she walked home from church. She died as a result.

Family members who attended Monday’s announcement said they are just hoping for closure.

“In the 13, 15 months that Anita passed away, we have had four great-grandchildren born, we have had a grandson who has passed away, we have had two weddings and numerous other celebrations,” said Wernsing’s son-in-law Gary. “We just wish that she could have been here to celebrate.”

There is a reward of up to $1,000 if a tip leads to an arrest. Anyone with information was asked to call the Boone County Sheriff’s Department at 765-482-1412 or Crime Stoppers. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
