CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — Monday starts the beginning phases of a big construction project that’s starting next month on Meridian and Main streets in Carmel.

Crews are getting the area ready for the interchange that will be built over the future U.S. 31.

Starting Monday, drivers will no longer be able to turn right from Main Street onto U.S. 31.

Next month, U.S. 31 will shut down completely for about eight months. Officials expect it to be back open around Thanksgiving.

The official detour route for the construction zone will be Keystone Parkway. Pennsylvania and Illinois streets will serve as alternate routes for local access. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
