INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police say a Speedway man who pretended he had stage 4 cancer turned himself in.

24-Hour News 8 reported on Tuesday that Jonathan Fox, Sr. faked cancer in order to get money from friends and strangers.

Police say Fox held fundraisers to help pay for his medical bills and even received a donation from Indiana State Rep. Karlee Macer. She gave him $750 after he asked for help in paying for his rent and Christmas for his children.

Investigators say donors went to police after catching inconsistencies in his story.

Fox now faces three counts of theft. Police say he admitted he misled people for four years.
