TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) — Vigo County Sheriff’s investigators say they have found the getaway car used in last week’s home invasion in the southern end of the county.

Chief Deputy Clark Cottom confirmed that a burned-out, 2003 Dodge Stratus, gold in color, was found off Cox Road in the Prairieton area, behind the federal penitentiary. Cottom said the car had been stolen, shot up, then torched deliberately.

Cottom said the Dodge bears three shotgun blasts: one in the passenger side door, a second in the right, rear fender; and a third in the car’s rear windshield that likely shattered the glass.

“We would ask citizens if they may know of any information on individuals who may have been involved with this to call the sheriff’s department,” Cottom said. “We would consider these suspects armed and dangerous! There is the possibility that one or more of the suspects could have been injured in this event.”

The getaway car was blasted by the male victim after investigators say he was home invaded, pistol whipped, and robbed while he and his girlfriend slept. The man admitted to authorities he fired his shotgun at the two male suspects as they sped away that night.

Investigators describe the suspects as two white males in their 20s; one was tall and thin, the other was shorter and stockier. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
