Alcohol now legal at Indiana State Fair

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – On Friday, Governor Mike Pence signed into law a bill ending a nearly seven decades-long ban on state fair alcohol sales.

Indiana and North Carolina were the only states in the U.S. that didn’t allow alcohol sales for on-site consumption at their state fairs before the bill was signed on Friday.

The law takes effect July 1 and would allow alcohol sales at this year’s Indiana State Fair, running from August 1 – 17 if the Indiana State Fair Commission decides to.

The hot topic has been met with opposition in the past, but state fair officials feel it will help showcase Indiana’s wine and beer industries. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
