Investigators release new details in Boone Co. crash that killed two teens

BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) -Investigators released new information in the crash Sunday that killed two Boone County teens.

The crash happened around 1 a.m.  near 1750 West 800 North near Lebanon.  The vehicle reportedly left the road and hit a tree head on.

Investigators say the two 18-year-old boys, Jacob Shockley and Richard Penny Jr. both were wearing seatbelts but died of multiple blunt force trauma.

According to the Boone County Sheriff’s investigators, excessive speed was a factor. Police estimate the vehicle was traveling 65 mph before impact.

Toxicology tests were performed but police say those results will take about three weeks. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
